To celebrate the 200 year-anniversary of the discovery of electromagnetism, the Jacobsen Brewery has brewed a special beer to honour H.C. Ørsted.
Ørsted was a very versatile scientist – besides discovering electromagnetism, he was the first to extract the alkaloid piperin from pepper (giving the pepper its strong taste). Therefore, the recipe consists of two different types of pepper. Other characteristics are the malt from the small island of Langeland in Denmark where Ørsted was born, and the dry hops Pacific Jade and Pacific gem, providing citrus notes.
The Ørsted brew has come to life in collaboration with the Carlsberg Foundation, The Carlsberg Laboratorium, The Jacobsen Brewery and the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
